Let’s hear from you.

I would like my blog to be a forum for my readers to share their stories and experiences and express their views and opinions about being a part of a blended family. I am working on a book tentatively titled:Blended Family Stories. It will be an in depth look at the real life challenges and joys of successful blended families. If you would like to be part of my research I'd love to hear from you.Take my Blended Family survey

  • YOUNG LADY… YOUNG LADY!!!

The other day I was having a stay-at-home-PMSy-eat-a-half-of-wheel-of-brie-and-a-bag-of-Oreos kind of a day when it was called to my attention that we were out of toilet paper. Can’t live without that.  Feeling the full weight of my 47 years, 10 months and two days of age, I pulled on my drawstring/elastic waste pants and  a T-shirt with no  bra and headed to the store with the hopes that I wouldn’t run into anyone I knew.

Now, when it comes to toilet paper (and any paper products for that matter) I have no brand loyalty. I simply buy whatever is on sale. I made my jumbo pack selection, threw it in my cart and as I was walking away I could hear a woman speaking, but I didn’t realize at first that she was talking to me.

“Excuse me. Excuse me. Young lady. YOUNG LADY!” she hollered in my direction.

I turned to see an elderly woman, probably in her 80’s. “Yes?” I couldn’t imagine what she wanted.

“Do you have one of these?” And she thrust a coupon into my hands for the toilet paper I just put in my cart.

“Why thank you,” I replied with genuine appreciation and I started to walk away. And then I turned once more and said, “And thank you for calling me ‘young lady’. ”

“Well, you’re a lot younger than I am,” she smiled and walked away.

You just never know when you will get a much needed pick-me-up from a total stranger. She made my day.
