  • ANOTHER DATE NIGHT RECIPE

    Prawn Cakes

I got this recipe from a cookbook I compiled for a fundraiser I did for my kids’ school a few years ago.  This recipe seems a bit odd, but I assure you, it was delicious and Paul told me it was a keeper.

    Ingredients:

1 lb raw prawns, peeled and tails cut off.

    2 green onions, chopped

3 T Mai Ploy (sweet Japanese chili sauce) I could not find this so I used Chinese Five Spice.

    3 egg whites

1 cup panko, (Japanese bread crumbs).

    salt and pepper

    2 limes

    4 T mayonnaise

    a shot of hot sauce

Saute half of the prawns in butter until pink and just done. Set aside in a large  bowl and let cool. Put the rest of the uncooked shrimp, the panko, green onions, 2 T of the Mai Ploy and egg whites in a food processor and pulse until mixture forms an oatmeal like paste. Put mixture in the bowl with the cooked prawns and mix all together and form four large patties. Cook in non stick pan with some melted butter until brown on both sides. While cooking, squeese lime over top and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  To make the sauce mix the mayonnaise and 1T of Mai Ploy and hot sauce.
